The pleasure pier in Brighton is a long way from a fishing jetty on California’s central coast. Surely the idea of extending a one-ended bridge out over the waves reaches its pinnacle in the adrenaline-boost of a coastal roller-coaster experience: flying with the birds, suspended between heaven and the ocean, rising to the sky before plunging back to the depths… argh! Scary fun!
